The areaMetropolitan of Barcelonait has reinvented itself since the end of the 20th century, transforming the city through urban renewal processes. The city ofBarcelona, like other European cities, has made an effort to open up to its seafront as part of an urban integration strategy, relocating industrial zones, reordering important roads, transforming urban facilities, which, as productive and functional artifacts, can coexist with the regeneration of public spaces that redefine the leisure and landscape of the Mediterranean city.
During the 80s and 90s, the pre-Olympic Barcelona model rescued a constellation of public spaces burying equipment and roads. The rearrangement of the coastal ring road under theMoll de la Fusta, the creation of the Maremagnum shopping area in the old port, and the construction of theOlympic Villagethey helped the integration between the urban fabric and the sea front.
Already at the beginning of the 21st century, the projectForum would make it possible to resolve the coexistence between facilities on a metropolitan scale with a risky bet on the generation of public space, resolving the meeting of the extension of theDiagonal Avenueto the sea. after the eventForum 2004and as a result of the 07-08 crisis, there was a marked slowdown in the implementation and execution of urban, landscape and environmental projects focused on solving the limit between the urban fabric of the neighborhood ofpoblenou and its maritime front; and above all the possibility of linking the Forum area and22@with the old port as a great beach corridor and public space. On the horizon for the second part of this decade is the rescue of thekisses riverand his encounter with the sea.
Today, the debate on how to act in thezoo platform (See Annex), which can become an integration engine that reinforces the commitment of aSmart Barcelona.
